Dowsing Wisdom

Change Direction…Change Your Life

Whether we have developed and trust our intuition or use a tool or device that is balanced for this, dowsing is simply an act as natural as taking a breath or feeling the heart beat. It can be defined as “an ability” inherent in every living creature, similar in fact to understanding the term “Sixth Sense”. Intuition is the inner feeling, whether a gut response, skin sensation, or just a firm “knowing” that something around you is different, comfortable or needs to change. Dowsing, using a device like a pendulum or rods, could also be explained as the outward visual representation of what our intuition would tell us if we could tune in. In truth, the more in tune you become with dowsing in general, the less likely you will need external tools or pendulums for answers. For example, why do you sometimes cringe or feel the need to protect yourself when approached by someone before they say hello?

Maybe you have felt a tingling in your hand or an unusual discomfort after picking up an object and quickly put it down. Most people don’t recognize when this connection and subtle shift in energy happens. They talk about a vague feeling that caused them to hurry home, or a sudden prompt to cross the street for no particular reason, just to walk down the other side. They may laugh at an inner knowing when the phone rings as to who might be calling because they were just thinking of this person. It could also be recognized when you just don’t feel right eating a certain food, and later feel ill, or by a sudden aversion to driving down a particular road that you have used many times before. Yet when most people think of dowsing, they think of a form of strange magic to see into the future, locate lost objects or divine below the ground for water or minerals using a Y-shaped branch.

However, this 6th sense is such a natural ability that even animals display this energy sensitivity. You see it when a dog instinctively growls and barks at a person it has never met before and yet happily greets and makes a fuss over another. It may happen as well when some birds or butterflies comfortably land on the hand of one person in a group but avoid others.

The term “Dowsing” actually means to search. A dowser then would be a person who seeks to discover something by recognizing a form of energy shift in or around them. There are many ways to do this. Some methods are as normal as noting and acting on your gut response when faced with a situation. One might also act on the body sensation of feeling physically pulled toward or forced away from something. This is called the sway technique, where we unconsciously or intuitively feel drawn towards something pleasurable and yet pushed away from pain or discomfort.

There is another method that is age old and uses a device such as a pendant, a needle on a string or rods that are designed to easily swing when directed at something and in answer to a question.

These tools have been used to search for lost objects, water or minerals below the ground, or just for fun to determine the sex of a baby before birth. The person holding this tool would ask a “Yes” or “No” type question and depending on the direction of the swing would receive their answer. It is interesting to note that in history books we are told that pendulums were also used during war time to locate hidden submarines, possible tunnels or areas for ambush by holding the device above strategic maps.

The pendulum when allowed to swing freely works as an outward display of a shift in energies that most of the time we are never aware of. We have all had moments when we suddenly feel the need to act or move. Fight, freeze, or flight are the extremes of these gut responses. However, there are softer, gentler nuances that sometimes we just miss or deny and then later have thoughts of “I did know better”, or “I wondered at the time if I should”. This connection is actually a result of the barely perceptible change in energy frequency that runs through everything here on earth. We can relate to this more easily when we think of the colour spectrum of a rainbow and how each colour that we see is defined by a particular frequency. In actuality, if we could physically see this frequency we could notice changes around us more easily. However subtle the energies are, we can still notice and relate to the shifts. For example, when things in our lives are going smoothly and we feel happy and content, our frequencies shift higher and the world seems to be a much brighter place. Yet when we are angry or feel lost and alone our frequencies shift lower and we actually say we feel down. Also, when we talk about the colours and relate to their coolness or warmth, we are simply referring again to their calculable frequencies. We say we are feeling blue or in the pink of good health, or when angry see red.

The change in frequency of the vibration is what is picked up by the pendulum simply by holding it in a particular way to allow it to swing. The energy shifts then are represented by various swings or movements allowing us insight we might not consciously be aware of. The tuning in method to dowsing sets this predictability. Therefore, depending on the direction of the swing, the intensity of its movement and the focus of the question asked, we can receive an answer we might never have consciously thought of. When the frequency is positive, clear and high, the pendulum, while being held, will move in a certain direction that will be opposite or completely different than when the frequency is negative or dense.

These changes between positive and negative represent the shift in relation to our energy, depending on the answer to the question asked. We feel them every day when we get excited or anticipate a happy event. We also feel the low ones when we are fearful or discouraged. The pendulum is simply an external visual to the internal prompts we all feel. So when using a pendulum, the differences represent the “Yes” and “No” answers based on the shift in energy frequency compared to our neutral energy or balanced and centred state. It can bypass our conscious thought process or subconscious belief system and shifts, depending upon the frequency the answer to the question generates.

It is important to note that true answers are never obtained if the dowser tries to anticipate the answer or wants it to be something that it is not. We can get in our own way, which is why it is so important to do this work from an impartial, neutral and centred state. Breathing, detachment, grounding, centering and protection are all important aspects to incorporate before undertaking a session. That way the energy shifts and nuances between answers are more easily discernible.

It is also vital to realize that answers obtained while using a pendulum are simply indicators of potential outcomes based on energy frequencies and information available at time of use. While the specific swings we are shown may offer huge “AHA's” and allow us to work through or clear issues or find objects and answers, a pendulum should never be used to diagnose, treat or cure, or take the place of mental and health therapies. Always check with a health care professional for your wellbeing. The purpose of presenting Dowsing in this book is to stimulate more trust in our intuitive insights.

To do this you will find various “Resources” included later on in this book for enlightenment and those “AHA” moments of release. These in turn can either allow permission to move through and let go of past hurts, the stigma of what we may have considered grievous unforgivable mistakes, or at the very least make some sense out of the nonsense that we call life. Uncovering outdated, non-productive belief systems or the lesson we feel we failed to understand at the time of the incident or issue, creates a sense of lightness in our energy. Taking a deep, freeing breath after each moment of discovery helps to anchor in the moment of closure or clarity. In the following chapter I will instruct on the simple way to relax with and use the pendulum. As you align with the pendulum work, your perceptions surrounding your own life plus those of others will heighten. You will also find that your intuition becomes more finely tuned as you begin to trust your instincts.

I wish you the best outcome for your journey, with support from the highest and best energies the Spiritual Realm offers, and for the greatest good of all involved.
